My Luxury Spa Guide to Washington, DC

My Luxury Spa Guide to Washington, DC

When I need a true reset, DC has a handful of spa experiences I trust completely. After years of trying every treatment room in the city, three stand above the rest: the Four Seasons Georgetown, The Ritz-Carlton Spa, and the Salamander. Each has its own personality, and each is worth the splurge.

The Four Seasons Georgetown

The Spa at the Four Seasons Georgetown, at 2800 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, is the classic choice for a full day of restoration. A recent renovation added a coed lounge and a couples suite, and the interior is quiet and eucalyptus-scented, with muted lighting that slows you down the moment you arrive. The underground lap pool with its hot tub, tucked beneath Georgetown, is one of the most serene spots in the city.

The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Georgetown

On a quiet side street at 3100 South Street NW, The Ritz-Carlton Spa is the intimate option. The hotel occupies a turn-of-the-century Georgetown building, and the spa feels like a private retreat tucked inside it. Treatments are built around the exclusive ESPA line, and the small scale means you are never sharing your calm with a crowd.

The Salamander

The newest name on my list is the Salamander, at 1330 Maryland Avenue SW on the Southwest waterfront. It opened in late 2024 as a two-level spa, with fourteen treatment rooms and a MediSpa offering needle-free facials. The locker rooms include steam, sauna, and water therapy, and the indoor pool looks out over the Potomac. It is a different energy from Georgetown, and I love it for that.

How to choose

If you want the grand, full-day classic, book the Four Seasons. If you want intimacy and a five-star hush, choose The Ritz-Carlton. And if you want the newest, most modern experience in the city, the Salamander is your spot. You really cannot go wrong, which is a wonderful problem to have.

Self-care is not a reward for finishing everything, it is what lets you keep going. Book the appointment, protect the time, and let DC take care of you for a few hours.
